Two Machakos High School dormitories go up in flames

Property of unknown worth has been destroyed after two dormitories at Machakos High School caught fire on Friday morning.

According to a police report seen by Education News the incident was reported by the school Principal Kahi Indimuli at 5:30 in the morning.

Security personnel manning CCTV cameras noticed smoke coming out of the two dormitories accommodating 280 students while they were in class for their morning preps.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established but the police have commenced investigations.

“It was reported by the Chief principal [of] Machakos Boys High School Mr. Kahi Indimuli Tel No.******* that today the 4/11/2022 at about 0530hrs, security personnel manning the CCTV  noticed smoke coming from two dormitories. Police officers rushed to the scene where it was established that two dormitories Omondi Junior harboring 173 students and Musau Junior harboring 107 students had been razed to ashes,” read the report.

“The incident took place while the students were attending their morning preps. Machakos Fire Brigade with the help of students together with police officers managed to put off the fire(.) Students’ property of unknown value [was] destroyed, scene processed and documented by CSI Machakos (.) All students have been accounted for and no injuries reported,” it concluded.
