Maria Soti Education Centre based in Keiyo South Sub-county of Elgeyo Marakwet County posted great results in the 2021 KCSE examinations, garnering a record mean of 8.07 and sending 95 percent of the candidates to university.
The school was the best in the county.
It is located 33 kilometres from Eldoret town on the Eldoret-KCC-Illula-Kapkoi road in a quiet countryside accessed via an all-weather road with beautiful surroundings which create a relaxed atmosphere for a classical learning experience.
Immediately the results were released, jubilant students and their teachers converged at the school grounds to celebrate, the atmosphere charged with elation and thrilling excitement.
The principal Mrs Jane Rotich said they managed to send 54 out of 57 students to university under the government sponsorship programme.
She attributed the good results to hard work, team spirit and complete cooperation between the students and their teachers.
Mrs Rotich observed that the girls were impeccably disciplined, being well managed by her deputy and the guidance and counselling department.
“Today we are elated that the school has posted good results yet again. It’s been our culture to produce good results courtesy of the hard work and support from the parents. The girls were well prepared for the exams,” said the principal.
Maria Soti was a dream of Mzee Cheseron, which was actualized by the late Hon Nicholas Biwott, former powerful minister in the former late president Daniel Arap Moi government.
Its name was carefully crafted to compound local identity and uniqueness, as well as enhance access to education to the rural girl child as envisioned by ‘Gogo’ Maria Soti. The founders envisioned a school heavily hinged on Christian values, which has been perpetuated to date.
The principal said that the Christian inclinations had been jealously guarded and maintained since the school’s inception in 2007 under the chaplaincy of the African Inland Church (AIC).
