Tharaka Nithi police are holding a 70-year-old man for allegedly defiling two girls aged seven and eleven at Kirangare Sub-Location in Tharaka South Sub-County.

Geoffrey Kimbo, Kirangare assistant chief acknowledged the incident stating that the old man was apprehended on Friday night and is being held at Marimanti police station.

“We arrested the suspect who is accused of defiling the two girls,” said Mr. Kimbo.

The accused was commissioned to look after livestock belonging to the minors’ father who had to travel to Nairobi hence leaving the old man with his two daughters and a younger son.

The minors’ father said to the police that when he returned from a trip from Nairobi on Friday night, he found the accused in the same bed with his daughters and all of them were naked.

“I went to Nairobi on Monday, leaving the old man with the children only to come back and find that he had defiled them,” said the father.

During the interrogation, the accused denied to have sexually molested the girls after initially declining to open the door.

The seven year old girl confessed that the accused had inappropriately touched her and intimidated her with dire consequences if she reported the matter.

The girls were taken to Marimanti Level Four Hospital where medical reports showed that they had indeed been defiled.

Mr. Kimbo warned parents not to leave their children with strangers or relatives.

He claimed that exposing children to such dangers constitutes to child neglect, which is punishable by law.
