Principal Secretary State Department of University Education and Research Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi has urged Kenyans taking Masters and PhDs to take advantage of the 2023 Commonwealth scholarship opportunities offered by the United Kingdom (UK).

He noted that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK is offering 19 Masters and 18 PhD full scholarships to Kenyan citizens tenable in 2023.

“Online application started on September 6, 2022 and will end on October 18, 2022. Scholars from both public and private universities can apply and should submit three sets of hard copies of prior application forms from the Ministry and the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission application form with all the certified copies to the Directorate of University Education,” he added.

Masters degree scholars are required to provide proof that they are Kenyan citizens and should have graduated from a recognized university with at least second class upper division honours.

Amb Nabukwesi noted that they should also have supporting statements from two referees, a proposal in the area of the study clearly showing the potential impact on the country’s development, a quality study plan and be below 35 years of age.

On the other hand, PhD scholars must be Kenyan citizens, have a masters degree from a recognized university, have supporting statements from two referees and one from a supervisor in a UK institution, have a proposal in the area of study clearly showing the potential impact on country’s development and be below 45 years of age.

“UK scholarships are intended to offer study under the following fields: food security and nutrition, manufacturing, health care and housing.” PS stated.
