TSC will restore teachers’ dignity, Bungoma TSC Director promises

By Tony Wafula

Bungoma County Teachers Service Commission (TSC) director Wilson Koros has said the Commission is on the move to reclaim the lost teacher’s dignity and encourage professionalism in the entire teaching fraternity.

Mr. Koros argued that the community no longer respects teachers as was the case in the past where teachers were held in high esteem.

Speaking at Kibabii University during a meeting with students preparing for industrial attachment, Koros advised them to stick to the Commission’s directives while at their work stations, claiming there are those that breach professional ethics.

“At the moment the Commission does not want to hear cases from you and your bosses at stations of work; that is why I have been invited here to be an eye opener and ensure that everybody is well versed with the Commission’s expectations of all of you,” Koros said, adding that their aim was to get the best teachers who will propel the profession to greater heights.

Mr. Koros called on all students in the teaching fraternity who have graduated from various universities to seek the Commission’s registration before fully engaging in offering services in schools.

He noted that the Commission has moved almost all services online, inviting teachers to upload their documents for registration to become full members.

“Things have moved digitally. Nobody will be forced to move from far to TSC offices for applications; all you need to do is upload the required documents for approval,” he said.

The county director warned those practising teaching without the legal documents to stop or seek legitimacy from the Commission.

Mr. Koros beseeched them to stick to the Commission’s laws, adding that once they are captured in the system they need to understand the legal documents, their roles and rights.

“The Commission has designed a portal where those recruited into the system can apply for sick, maternity and compassionate leaves once they arise,” he said.

He asked those on attachment to behave well and dress decently while at the work stations, suggesting that they should be role models for the young ones.

The county director lauded the Commission under its CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia for devolving services like discipline and promotions, which are now handled at the county level.
