Kenya Alliance for Advancement of Children (KAACR) has warned politicians against using children in the ongoing political campaigns.

The organization’s director Timothy Wekesa said the law will soon catch up with those abusing the children.

The children rights advocate said parents should be in the forefront to protect their children by monitoring their movements during this campaign period.

In the recent past, children have been persuaded to take pictures with politicians, which are later shared on social media.

KAACR Legal Officer Joy Katunge said children rights are protected by the law, and thus taking pictures of minors requires permission from a significant other who has parental authority.

The children rights advocates were speaking during a workshop with journalists in Kajiado County on ‘She Leads Programme’.

During the forum, media practitioners were challenged to play a role in the empowerment of women and girls by reporting more positive stories.

The strategic objective of the programme is to increase sustained influence of girls and young women in decision-making and the transformation of gender norms in formal and informal institutions.

A lot has been achieved since its launch in 2021especially in Kajiado County. There has been involvement of women in decision-making and advocacy processes. She Leads Project will also to be implemented in Kwale, Nairobi, Homabay and Kisumu.
