Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has pledged to sponsor a teenage mother to continue with her studies.

Ms. Wavinya said that she met the girl with her baby in Machakos town.

They later met at her house where she expressed the desire to go back to school and complete her studies.

“I met the the teenage mother while on official duties in Machakos town with a lovely young baby boy. The young mother expressed desire to go back to school and I have agreed to support her until she finishes,” she said.

The governor noted that early pregnancies and marriages had hindered many girls from pursuing education and promised to involve every stakeholder in a mission to find a solution.

“Early pregnancies cause grave harm to the girl child. Early marriages deny the child the right to pursue their aspirations and dreams and rob them of their childhood. We must find solutions to end early childhood pregnancies,” she said.
