Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina has resigned following his clash with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The don said that he had been forced to resign and the university council dissolved following their refusal to cede land for the World Health Organization (WHO) hub in the institution.

Speaking while launching the construction of WHO African regional operations and logistics hub, the president threatened to deal with the KU management swiftly and effectively.

“The land in question belongs to Kenya yet you claim it is yours. The facility to be built will help improve healthcare in the entire African continent. I still have three more weeks in office, we shall deal with those individuals swiftly and effectively. I will go home with you,” he warned.

The president added that Kenya has never operated in isolation and that it is recognized as a strong supporter of multinational institutions.

WHO intended to build a Ksh600 million emergency hub in the land under contention.

Kenyatta University had complained that the university hadn’t permitted WHO to construct the emergency hub and that the 200 acres of land where the hub was to be built was already set aside for other development projects.

However, Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRH) Chairperson Prof Olive Mugenda argued that the land in question is a national property and belongs to the government.
