County to employ all qualified ECDE teachers, their age notwithstanding

Nyamira County government will employ all qualified ECDE teachers in the ongoing recruitment exercise.

“We have employed 600 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms and we intend to employ more,” he said.

Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo who addressed Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Nyamira Branch in Kisumu town said that ECDE teachers play an integral part in the development of education in the country.

He denied allegations that his government had planned to get rid of ECDE teachers who had been working on contractual terms and had attained 45 years and above.

“Those who have reached 45 years and above shall be employed on renewable contract terms but we shall not dispose of them,” he promised.

He said that in his endeavour to better the foundation of education in the county, his government will introduce milk feeding programmes in all nursery schools in the county through contracting farmers to keep modern dairy cows that will produce enough milk to supply the schools.

On his part, KESSHA Nyamira Branch chairman Job Oira thanked and assured the governor that their Association will work hand in hand with the government of the day to improve education standards.

Mr Oira revealed that Nyamira County had 94 secondary schools that registered improved results in the previoust year’s KCSE examinations.

While praising Nyakeore Seconday school for acheiving 100 percent transition to university, he also congratulated Nyakemincha, Nyansiongo and Kebirigo High School for their excellent performance.

He said that more than 10 principals from the county are set to retire but asked those who will succeed them to carry on with the mantle of examplary leadership.
