A needy family from Kawethei in Kangundo sub county of Machakos county is appealing for financial aid to enable their sick daughter acquire specialized medical attention.

Ruth Mwende told Education News that her daughter Beatrice Kavindu, a form four student at Mulingana secondary school started feeling sick in May this year.

She narrated that her daughter’s hands and legs became numb and her sight started fading slowly.

She took her for treatment where a series of tests were done but nothing conclusive was found. The doctors only prescribed pain killers and discharged her.

“She started getting cross-eyed then lost her sight. She cannot stand on her own and we have sought treatment but the doctors said they could not find what was ailing her,” narrated the mother.

“I don’t know what is wrong with my child. She has been passing blood in her stool. I do menial jobs once in a while to make ends meet and her father works in quarries in Lukenya. We have neither savings nor any money. Final exams are fast approaching and she is here at home with me and I am at a loss on what will happen next. I feel like I am on the verge of giving up,” she added.

The teenage girl said that she cannot figure out what caused her condition as it all happened very fast.

“I woke up one morning with one of my hand and leg feeling numb. I was taken to Mukunike Dispensary and then to Kangundo Level Four hospital where tests were done. I was given drugs but the condition did not change. I am appealing for help so that I can have a specialist look at me,” she said, fighting back tears.

Her desire is to get well and proceed with her studies for the forthcoming KCSE exams. As much as she is scared, she is also hopeful that assistance from well-wishers will find a way to her.
