Director threatens to deregister absentee candidates

By Amoto Ndiewo

The Tana River Director of Education Khalif Hassan has warned students who register for national exams but stay away from school only to appear during examination time that their names will be removed from the candidates roll.

‘’Such students risk being deregistered before sitting their exams at any level, whether KCSE, KCPE or KPSEA,’’ he said.

Hassan noted that many students in the riverine county performed poorly in the 2021 KCPE and KCSE exams because after registration, they deserted school due to reasons best known to them.

He blamed parents for their negligence that gave reason to the children to absent themselves from school.

“We have parents who are either too busy looking for money or do not care,’’ he pointed out, adding that under such circumstances the child is left to their own devices.

The director revealed that a stakeholders meeting will be held soon to dissect the issues and come up with practical interventions.
