Professionals from Kisii have been praised for their effort to support the development of education in the region.
Speaking recently at Nyaura DEB Primary School Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said the elite have a big role to supplement the government’s effort in the provision of quality education to its citizens.
“The government plays a great role in the betterment of the lives of her people. However, area residents must show gratitude and appreciate by supplementing such efforts,” said Dr Matiang’i.
The CS thanked Health PS Susan Mochache for steering the alumni of Nyaura Primary School in Nyaribari Chache Constituency to raise funds to give the school a new face.
Dr Matiang’i revealed the PS mobilised her colleagues to raise more than Sh70 million that will be used to construct modern classrooms, a multipurpose hall and a perimeter wall to secure the school from any intruders.
The CS was flanked by his counterpart in the Ministry of Education, Prof George Magoha, who officiated in the laying of the foundation for the construction of the modern school.
Prof Magoha said that the step by the professionals from the area to give back to society was bold.
He said that the move came at the opportune time when Kisii town is expanding with many workers coming there with their families.
“Nyaura Primary school is at the vicinity of Kisii town that house many people with their children who yearn for education; therefore the modern facility will ease the congestion of our children in the learning facilities,” he said.
The CS disclosed Nyaura Primary School was founded in 1962 and that its roofs were dilapidated. The school has 800 pupils and 40 teachers.
“Of the big student population, 42 of them with special needs, the school caters for them under the integration programme of learning,” he revealed the head teacher.
He thanked the region’s professionals and civil servants for the rare gesture. He promised that his school Management Committee will spend the money for the purpose it was raised for.
He asked other leaders from the region to copy the professionals and continue to promote education in the area.
