Ruto Govt should address congestion of students in schools, says KNUT official

By Fredrick Odiero

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kisumu East Chairman has called on the government to address how transiting learners will be accommodated amidst congestion in a number of schools as it sets up the CBC review task force

The Chair, Elly Otieno said that infrastructure was key in the implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) and the realization of the 100% transition policy by the government.

Speaking in Kisumu, Otieno who is the Head teacher of Central Primary school said that the decision by the government to review CBC was a step in the right direction.

He further echoed KNUT National Secretary General Collins Oyuu’s sentiments that all education stakeholders should be involved in the review curriculum saying that the views were pertinent and deserved attention.

Furthermore, the Chair noted that the Church should also be represented in the task force owing to the fact that it is a major sponsor of learning institutions in the country.

Otieno said that the task force should ensure that the gaps in the curriculum are filled while negative attributes are discarded.

The official termed anti-CBC propagators as misguided and called for a sober approach to the issue noting that education matters should not be politicized at all.
