Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii Cheliim  recently presided over the launch of a process that will see all Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE ) teachers in the county employed on permanent and pensionable terms.

Speaking during the event held at Home Craft in Pioneer, Eldoret town, Chelilim assured ECDE teachers’ that their welfare would be well taken care of under his administration.

“We have said that an ECDE teacher must be happy just as a university lecturer since what they do is a lot and should be paid well. I understand the challenges they have been through over time and that it is time they are addressed,” said the governor.

He added: “The previous administration had committed to employing the teachers on a permanent and pensionable terms but the process was delayed due to budgetary constraints. But they have now been confirmed.”

Uasin Gishu County had advertised ECDE teachers positions in three categories – graduates, diploma holders and certificate holders out of which 1,287 teachers qualified and are set to be employed.

Governor Bii said that his administration was working on a school feeding plan to improve children’s nutrition and retain pupils in schools.

The program is part of his ten-pillar manifesto dubbed ‘Nguzo Kumi’.

The county boss further urged the teachers to continue scaling up in their education careers.

On his part, Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot called on the teachers to improve the performance and confidence of the children by providing holistic guidance to them.

He stated that the county was working on ensuring public ECDEs offer services similar to those in private schools so that the county’s students access better education.

“Our main interest is to serve residents. We are going to ensure that over 4,000 employees in the county have their jobs secured. No one will get frustrated or disappointed in this new administration.” he said.
