Well-wishers come to aid Kangaru student who reported with cockerel

The boy who yesterday walked to Kangaru School in Embu with a cockerel which had been gifted to him by his aunt after circumcision to have the school admit him to Form One can now afford to smile after well-wishers committed to settle his entire secondary school fees.

Lawrence Murimi was the talk of town yesterday after the controversial entry to Kangaru school with many calling for assistance to have the student admitted.

The student by morning had over five well-wishers who had promised to assist him.

The county education team lead by County Director for Education, James Kairu, visited the student at his mother’s rented house in Majengo estate in Embu town to pick the student to school.

Murimi who was very joyous was now sure that he was going to join his dream school.

This time, he was not to walk again kilometers to school but to be driven in a school van.

Neighbors waved as he made his way to school with some heard wishing him well.

“Murimi, enda utie bidii Mungu atakusaidia,”said one of the jubilant neighbors in Swahili dialect.

The school principal, Solomon Koech, said the student arrived in the school with only a cock and nothing else.

“We could not admit him immediately because he had no personal effects and we told his mother to go get his personal effects,” said Koech.

He stated that he received several phone calls from different quarters who promised to make the student achieve his dream.

His mother, Pauline Mukami, thanked the well-wishers saying he was in darkness not knowing how her son will get education at his desired school.

“We are thankful to the well-wishers and all those who participated to make this happen,” said Mukami.

The student had scored 313 marks in his KCPE exam last year.

The student woke up on Wednesday and told his mother that he could not continue staying at home when the other students were going on with their studies; that is when he decided to use what was at his disposal.

He however was turned down by the school before his story caught media attention.
