KNUT wants Gov’t to employ more TVET tutors

By Tsozungu Kombe

The government has been asked to employ Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) tutors in the country and deploy them to schools to enable teachers implement the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Speaking during the ongoing KESSHA Annual Conference Meeting held at Sheikh Khalifa Educational Centre Hall in Mombasa County, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Mr. Collins Oyuu, said that adequate teachers in schools would enhance the implementation of CBC more effectively and efficiently.

He further urged the government to increase capitation granted in schools to enable the Boards of Management (BoM) implement school development projects.

At the same time, Mr. Oyuu lamented that many primary and secondary school teachers in the country have left the teaching profession because they are being over work due to shortage of teachers.
