TSC summons field directors for two-day meeting

By Our Reporter

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has summoned all its senior field officers for a two-day consultative meeting at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi.

Education News has reliably learnt that all Regional Directors and County Directors are required to attend the meeting that starts tomorrow, April 6 and is expected to end on Thursday, April 7.

The exact agenda of the meeting was not clear but several County Directors who spoke to Education News speculated that the issue of training of secondary school teachers on CBC could dominate the discussions as well as the effect of upcoming political party primaries on teaching in learning institutions.

The teachers’ employer announced recently that 60,000 secondary school teachers would be trained on CBC with a particular interest in preparing them for teaching of Junior Secondary School students. The training programme begins on May 2 this year.

According to the officials, TSC may want to use the opportunity to ask the directors to warn teachers who may become actively involved in the political party nominations and reiterate the need for teachers to be non-partisan.

In an Internal Memo released in December 2021, TSC reorganized the reporting structure for all field officers who will now report directly to the TSC CEO, Nancy Macharia. This is a complete departure from normal protocols as the sub-county directors, directors and regional directors were earlier reporting to the head of Teacher Management Directorate.
