Mothers should stay forefront in guarding daughters against sex pests- Women-rep

By Enock Okong’o

Kisii County Woman Representative Mrs. Janet Ong’era has asked mothers to be in the forefront towards teaching and guarding their innocent daughters against sex pests.

Speaking at Kisii town on Wednesday, she decried the high rate of child defilement in the area and attributed it to drug abuse, lack of personal dignity and disregard of the common societal ethics by culprits.

Her concern came after a Grade Two pupil was defiled by a grown up man recently.

According to the parent of the victim whose names are not going to be mentioned for concerns of confidentiality, their eight year old daughter was defiled by a man known to them.

They narrated that a 25-years old man entered their home and enticed the daughter with sweets before dragging  her to the  back of the house where he committed the atrocity.

When the parents came home  from  their farm chores, they chanced upon the girl lying at the scene  unconsciously. They rushed her to Kisii Teaching and Refferal Hospital immediately for treatment.

Kisii Teaching and Refferal Hospital Chief Executive Officer  Enock Ondari confirmed that the minor  had been abused sexually.

He advised that the girl should remain in hospital as the parents sought help from the police.

Keumbu Division Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Joshua Muthoka confirmed that the suspect had been arrested and he was assisting the security officers with further investigation before he appears in a court of law.

The police identified the suspect in their cells as Cosmas Kebira of Boruma village in Kisii County.

The police officers thanked the community policing groups in the area who were led by their Chairman Mr. Kennedy Onkwanyi for moving with speed to help in the search and apprehension of the suspect.

Muthoka sent a stern warning to those who were bent to commit evils saying that the hand of the law will not spare them.
