Parents in Kilifi County have been urged to take the education of the girl child seriously in a bid enhance education levels in the region.
Speaking during a public meeting at Sokoke Ward in Ganze constituency recently, Reverend Peter Jacob Katana of Redeemed Gospel Church decried the high dropout rate of girls in the county.
The clergy further attributed the high dropout rate to early pregnancies and early marriages.
Reverend Katana, however, revealed that the trend had hampered the enhancement of education levels in the area.
He asked parents and other education stakeholders in the county to work as a team in order to support the education of the girl child.
“You are duty bound to take great care of the girl child education in the region,” Reverend Katana told parents.
He said that education is the only key towards the implementation of community development projects.
The Clergy also disclosed that the county’s rapid development needed educated people who will be charged with the responsibility of designing, planning and implementing community development projects.
At the same time, he urged the Law Courts in the county to impose deterrent sentences on people found to have defiled school girls to discourage the vice.
