University fraternity joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day

Kibabii University yesterday joined other Kenyans and the world at large in celebrating the International Women’s Day in an event that was graced by the institution’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Ipara Odeo.

While addressing the media after the event, Prof. Odeo urged men to stop mistreating women, saying that they  have a great role to play in the society and that their presence is very crucial in  the  Community.

He noted that the university had given a good consideration to women and commended them for running their departments as required.

“I can confirm from this University that the women we have given opportunities are running their departments well and this shows that women can deliver, what a man can do  a woman can do better,” he said.

In addition, he appealed to women to turn up in huge numbers to vie for elective seats, reminding that women have the rights to lead as well.

He also asked the society to support the boy child, arguing that the society have neglected them and concentrated more on girl child.

“Statistics from this institution shows that boy child have been neglected in the society and focus directed more on the girl child. Let us all help the two in achieving in life in line with this year’s theme of gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,” he added.

Odeo pointed out that many parents and guardians have also diverted attention to supporting girl child leaving boy child in trouble.

“In this university, I have seen some parents pay fees for girls but neglect boys, I ask them to support them all for the future generation,” he disclosed.

During the event, Rev. Joselyne Isigi, a motivational speaker asked women to stop fighting their men and instead support them, adding that suicide cases have risen up in the society due to gender related issues.

“Now and then we hear suicide cases among men and women. It is my humble appeal to parents and lecturers in our universities to guide students according,” she said.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day held on 8Th  March, 2022 was: ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,’ that sought to explore ways in which women and girls are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation and response around the world, contributing powerful leaders and change-makers to a more sustainable future for all.
