Two County Commissioners have been lauded for beefing up security and restoring peace among two warring communities that had threatened to disrupt the ongoing KCPE examinations in the border area.

Kisii County Majority Leader Timothy Ogugu commended the two; Mr. Isaac Masinde, County Commissioner for Narok and Allan Macharia, County Commissioner for Kisii for the quick steps they took to stop confrontations from two communities that led to the torching of sugarcane farms.

The brief confrontations at Magenche and Mapashi areas along the Kisii-Transmara border caused tension among the candidates of Mokomoni, Bendera and Motontera primary schools who feared for their lives as the fights took place near the schools.

“The quick intervention by the police brought assurance to our children who calmed and continued with their examinations smoothly,” remarked Mr. Ogugu.

The fights started when youths from neighboring communities attacked each other where there was exchange of arrows and spears that only ceased when security teams arrived following orders from the Commissioners Isaac Masinde and Allan Macharia.

The Commissioners asked elders from both sides to restrain the youth from engaging themselves in violent confrontations whenever there was a misunderstanding.

“These communities have been together for long and we are not going to allow anybody to spoil their coexistence,” said Mr. Masinde.

Keiyan Ward Member of County Assembly Mark Mukut said candidates at Mapashi location in Transmara West feared sitting the examinations on Tuesday but he sought help from the GSU at Nyabitunwa Patrol Base to escort the candidates to school.

Mukut revealed that during the brief confrontation between the youths, the sugarcane farmers endured losses estimates at Sh50 million due to torching of farms.

He thanked the police for separating the warring communities from extending further acts of violence.
