The North-eastern Regional Commissioner James Kianda has once again assured residents that state agencies are working around the clock to ensure the examinations exercise run smoothly as he reveal that areas with challenges of poor roads and with examination centres being far apart, the state was forced to use choppers to deliver the examination in time.
The regional administrator said the security organs including the KDF and border patrol units are involved in securing the examinations centres that are close to the volatile and porous border with lawless neighbour, Somalia.
“We are using choppers to far flung areas like Holugho, Galmagala, Liboi, Kulan in Garissa, eastern parts of Habaswein in Wajir and Arabia and Takaba in Mandera County,” said Kianda who was speaking after opening examinations containers at Garissa County commissioner’s offices.
Kianda added that the same choppers will also be used during the KCSE examinations as they were deployed by KNEC in liaison with the interior ministry.
“The decision was reached given the rampant terror attacks by suspected Al-shabaab who recently butchered an area chief in Mandera. Such anxiety has made innocent citizenry who fear that the blood thirsty militants opposed to secular education might disrupt the national examination. There is no cause for alarm as proper security measures have been put in place,’’ assured Kianda as he stressed that every security officer in the region is directly involved in the exam securing process.
Kianda wished best of luck to students at Garissa Primary School where he assessed the examination process on day two.
A total of 12,189 boys and 8,839 girls are sitting for the KCPE which ends today, Wednesday 9Th 2022 with social studies paper in 582 centres in North-eastern region.
In addition 1,189 boys and 1,207 girls from the refugee camps are sitting for the examinations, across the country about 1.2 million candidates are in for the same exam.
