The Abagusii Council of Elders and Cultural Development have asked parents to provide their children with enough material during the ongoing KCPE examinations, regretting that one candidate from Etago Sub-county was doing her examinations from a maternity ward in hospital.
Besides, the elders asked parents to cooperate with such candidates in order to allow them continue with their studies after the maternity leave.
The elders were speaking at a short prayer meeting during the official opening of the examination containers at the Kisii County Commissioner’s offices, where their Chairman Mr. Matundura Araka said that parents play a big role in the upbringing of children, blaming them for leaving their young ones with house helps whom some of the times mislead the children.
During the event that was led by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education Dr. Julius Jwan, Matundura revealed that he had organized his team to accompany education officials during the exercise.
“We invited the two pastors who are with us here to preside over the prayers for our children,” he said.
The Chairman also used the occasion to ask parents to provide enough food for the candidates to enable them get energy to tackle the examinations.
He told candidates to avoid using any alcohol or drugs as they corrupt their minds, leading to failure in the examinations.
Kisii County Commissioner Mr. Allan Macharia assured the public of security during the whole examination period.
“I have instructed my security officers to arrest anyone who might try to tamper with the examination materials, such individuals will be taken to court,” the Commissioner briefed.
Kisii County Director of Education Mr. Pius Ngoma said that Kisii Central Sub-county presented a total of 33,104 candidates in the 2021 KCPE examinations.
Out of the total candidature he said 16,187 are girls while the rest are boys.
He wished them good health and success in their examinations.
