Migori County Commissioner Mwangi Meru has assured that security officers have been deployed to deal with any eventuality that may arise within the county during the national examinations period.

Mwangi while speaking during the opening of exam containers within the county commissioners’ headquarters noted that the exercise has begun smoothly and is optimistic that the exams will be conducted in a free and fair manner disowning the notion that the county is a hotspot for exam cheating.

A spot check by the Education News team confirmed that exam materials were safely distributed to and from exam centres in time and that the day one of the KCPE ended without any hitches across the county.

His sentiments were echoed by his Deputy Benson Karani who said they have collaborated well with the examination officials in ensuring that all the logistics put in place to the exam papers reach various examination centers in time, promising to ensure that the challenges are addressed.

35,552 pupils are writing their KCPE in 818 exam centres as 15 primary schools that failed to meet the candidature threshold by the ministry to form exam centres were merged with other schools.

The exam commenced with the candidates writing their exams in mathematics, English language and and English composition.

On day two, they will write Kiswahili Lugha, Science and Insha and then conclude with social studies and religious education on Wednesday.
