The national individual school chess championships that kicked off on Monday, 19th September at Moi Girls High school, Eldoret will come to an end today (Wednesday).

The Secretary General of Chess Kenya John Mukabi termed the tournament a success and noted that it was one of the largest in Africa as it featured more than 1,800 contestants from 213 schools.

“Everything went according to plan. There were two rounds on Monday. Three more rounds on Tuesday and another three rounds will take place today, making it eight rounds. The winners will be identified by the end of Wednesday,” said Mukabi.

Mukabi added that athletes like the five-time national junior champion Laurencia Minange, current Africa u7s champion Winnie Kaburu and Africa Junior Champion Elizabeth Cassidy would probably win in their various divisions.

The winners of the respective categories will qualify for the Africa Individual Schools Championships (AISC) which will take place in Monrovia, Liberia between 8th and 19th December.
