By Roy Hezron

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha has hailed the Kenya Girl Guides Association for instilling character in its members saying that the influence can be seen in their public and private lives.

Prof. Magoha has supported girls to join the movement as a key part of the co-curricular programme in schools, thanking the Kenya Girl Guides Association for supplementing learning and developing well rounded children through its programmes.

The CS said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Principal Secretary for the State Department of the Implementation of Curriculum Reforms, Prof. Fatuma Chege during the association’s Centenary Celebrations at Christ is the Answer Ministry (CITAM) Karen in Nairobi on February 25, 2022.

He said further that academic success is greatly complemented by the values that the association instills in its school going members, noting that the Girl Guiding exposes its members to experiences such as camping, training and exchange programmes that enable them to build a global worldview.

He added that the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) aims at inculcating in children the need to learn to treat themselves and others with dignity, to demonstrate integrity and develop their capacity for true leadership which is based on serving others, urging parents to effectively play their role of parenting and not leave everything to teachers.

He further lauded the Girl Guide movement for playing a critical role in complementing the role of parents and teachers in shaping the lives of children in a positive manner.

The occasion was officiated by Kenya’s First Lady, Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta and graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Prof. Margaret Kobia and Chief Administrative Secretary at Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs Nadia Ahmed.
