Makueni branch Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary has requested the government to introduce and make guidance and counseling subject mandatory in all learning institutions to curb unrests.

While condemning the recent school infernos, Benson Ndambuki, the Executive Secretary noted that the government should employ guidance and counseling experts in all schools to provide professional approach to grievances from students.

“Our parents have undergone losses in paying for damaged properties by their children. There should be a permanent solution to issues with students before they escalate,” he added.

He also encouraged schools to be in the forefront in embracing climate change by planting more trees and nurturing them whenever there is rain.

“School management should seek support both from government and well-wishers. Let them plant as many as possible especially during this rainy season,” Ndambuki said.

He called upon county government to be instrumental in tree planting by supplying seedlings to institutions, especially primary schools.

The secretary urged teachers to train and teach children on how to plant and nurture trees adding that by so doing, they will grow practicing it even in their old-age.
