Over 200 students from Migori County have benefited from National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) kitty under the Women Representatives’ office worth Sh5,079,600 as schools reopen for third term.

The Women Representative Dr. Pamela Odhiambo noted that despite the delay in remittance of funded from government, her office saw it wise to assist the needy students who had applied for the bursaries to help cushion their parents and guardians as they prepare to take their children back to school.

Dr. Pamela noted the importance of keeping the learners in school especially candidates who will be writing their national exams in two months’ time. She called on school heads to be patient with parents.

“I urge education stakeholders to work in unison to ensure our children spend more time in their respective schools through sponsorship as this will limit chances of the learners getting involved into other illicit characters,” said Odhiambo.

She also called on parents to encourage their children to remain focused on their dreams amidst the challenges they might be facing in their respective schools.

The parliamentarian lauded the recent directive by Maranda High School management to have the students undergo drug test before they are accepted back to school.
