By Enock Okong’o

The Ministry of Education has been asked to involve community members in the selection of committee members for school management boards.

Speaking to parents, Nyakorere Secondary School Board of Management committee chairman Mr. Enock Onditi lamented that there are some members in school boards who only fill gaps and do not assist schools in making meaningful progress.

He appealed to the Ministry of Education to use the local administration to identify the right people to sit in those committees.

He lauded the Board of Management committee of Nyakorere Secondary School for helping the principal revive the glory of the school.

‘They sacrificed their meager resources and time to improve the infrastructure and school enrollment,’ he said.

The chairman, who was flanked by Mokubo location chief Mr.Samuel Ombia during the inspection of the ongoing work at the school, advised parents to enroll their children in nearby schools where they can easily monitor them.

‘It is your responsibility as parents to motivate teachers to do their best by sending your children to school and by helping the teachers guide the children,’ he advised.

He asked the Ministry of Education to move with speed and abolish all boarding schools so as to avert arson in schools.

He also asked teachers to be alert at all times so that they can single out any suspects in schools.

‘Schools should also employ qualified guards who will enhance maximum security in the schools,’ he said.

Nyakorere secondary school was started in 1980s. Two years ago, it sent 11 students directly to the university.

The principal of Nyakorere secondary school Mr. Ongeri attributed the success to the cooperation between the school management and the teachers.

He expressed optimism of better performance in the next exam because the stakeholders in the school had put in place appropriate strategies that will enable them achieve their target.
