28.5 billion required to improve infrastructure in schools, Education CS reveals

The Cabinet Secretary for the Education Ministry Prof. George Magoha has said that Sh28.5 billion is required to improve infrastructure in both primary and secondary schools as the country prepares in anticipation for the roll out of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The CS was speaking when he officially opened Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association’s (KEPSHA) 17th Annual Delegates Conference held at Sheikh Khalifa Educational Center in Mombasa County most recently.

He added that 29.5 percent of the Education Ministry budget is spent to put up infrastructure in schools in the country.

The CS, however revealed that Sh300 million will be spent to improve infrastructure in the Low Learning schools in slum areas in the country to enhance effective teaching and learning respectively.

He stated that the government has donated 260,000 modern desks to primary schools in the country to enable pupils to learn under a conducive environment.

Magoha also disclosed that the government will release government Grants to primary schools in the country before the schools open next week January, 2022 for the third term learning session.
