As schools reopen in a week’s time, pupils from Kosodo Primary School in Rongo Constituency are set to carry out learning under trees following poor conditions of classrooms which are a danger to learners at the institution.

Parents at the institution now want the area Member of Parliament Hon. Paul Abuor to take action with the privileges of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to construct more classrooms that will help accommodate the learners, failure to which they will be forced to learn under trees despite the area receiving heavy rains.

The school head teacher Mrs. Mary Odhiambo has called on parents to school to come together and chart the way forward concerning the situation at the learning institution. She also called on well-wishers to help the school acquire more classes, noting that the dilapidated classrooms were built several years ago and over 400 pupils are currently affected.

“Over 400 pupils are affected and will from next term forced to have their lessons in the open because the walls can come down anytime causing death or injury on them. I therefore called the parents to the school for us to bring our heads together on the way forward as the situation dire. I wish to humbly request well-wishers to help reconstruct more classrooms that will help accommodate the affected learners,” said Odhiambo.

The parents led by Benard Ogalo slammed the area MP for failing to renovate the structures telling him to support the institution before they lose their children in any form of accident that may be caused by the buildings coming down.

“It’s a pity that the structures are in such a state that can so deadly yet we have a Member of Parliament elected by electorates whose children are learning at the school. We want him to move swiftly and ensure that the children will be able to learn inside classrooms where they can attend to their lessons comfortably enough,” said Ogalo.

Elizabeth Akinyi Odoyo also a parent at the institution said the situation not only pose danger to the lives of the learners but also to the teachers urging the elected leaders led by the Member of Parliament for Rongo Constituency to move with speed to ensure that the learners alternative accommodation as construction of proper classrooms is organized.

“We have elected leaders from within the constituency especially the MP and we wish to challenge them to come to the aid of the school and its parents since it is a heavy burden that the parents alone cannot bear. We risk losing both pupils and teachers at the school since the structures might come down anytime,” said Akinyi.
