The former Mayor for Kisii town Mr. Samuel Nyangeso has asked parents to spare time and talk to their children on good morals when they close schools.
The mayor said that the widening gap between parents and their children has led to most of the youths deviating from the societal norms.
“Every child needs the propping hands of an adult in order to mature and start to depend on themselves,” he said.
The mayor who was speaking to education stakeholder in Kisii in the eve of Jamuhuri Day celebrations, informed that true freedom is that which entailed quality education supported by parents.
He decried the use of intoxicating substances by the youths and attributed it to adults who lured them to these vices.
He asked parents to form village groups that could encourage peer study groups among their children to keep them busy during the holidays.
He asked the retired teachers from the region to be in the forefront towards encouraging the young teachers to embrace their profession.
“You can start village libraries by donating your old but relevant books to ignite the reading culture in your villages,” he said.
The mayor told teachers who thought that retirement was a death sentence and then plunged themselves into the drinking of illicit brews in the villages to shun the idea and embrace meaningful activities community.
