The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has set dates for trainees sitting for the 2021 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Examinations.

In a circular to County Directors, the council indicated that the examinations will take place between 30th November and 2nd December 2021.

The rehearsals for the examinations will be conducted on Monday, 29th November 2021 and the Councill will rely on officers from Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) who will be coordinated by the Sub-county Director of Education.

Personnel who will be involved in the management of the exams will be briefed between 22nd and 26th November 2021 in a meeting which will be chaired by Deputy County Commissioners.

Candidates who have refers in ECDE have been informed to register in their former ECDE College to re-sit for the units they failed.

KNEC also announced registration for the 2022 Teacher Education Examination for the PTE, TCAE, DTE and SNE examinations, the exam shall be carried out between 1st November and 31st December 2021 while registration of ECDE candidates will be done between 1st February and 31st March 2022.

Submission of inaccurate data for candidates, presentation of unqualified candidates and late registration are some of the challenges the council has experienced in the past registrations.

The 2021 ECDE examination will be the last that KNEC is offering under old curriculum; as the government changed the curriculum system from 8.4.4 to Competency Based Curriculum which resulted to changes in assessment of learners. The certificate course in ECDE was phased out and replaced with new curriculum for Diploma in Early Childhood Education which embraces the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
