Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Deputy National Treasurer Mwalimu Ali Abdi Hussein has passed on due to Covid-19 related complications.

In a statement by the Union Secretary-General Collins Oyuu yesterday, Mwalimu Hussein had been admitted to The Nairobi Hospital with Covid-19 related complications, and had shown tremendous improvement for the last three days.

Oyuu added that Mr. Hussein died on Sunday (November 14, 2021) morning when his condition deteriorated.

“It is with a heavy and sad heart that I announce the untimely demise of our brother Mwalimu Ali Abdi Hussein who has been critically ill at the Nairobi Hospital for the last three weeks,” said Oyuu.

Oyuu in the statement described Mwalimu Hussein as a distinctive leader, a hardworking servant, soft-spoken, passionate, and a progressive figure who until his death served as the Deputy National Treasurer in KNUT, a position he wielded so tirelessly to advocate for the rights of the teachers of Kenya.

Mwalimu Hussein rose to the position of National Deputy Treasurer unopposed during the previous KNUT elections at Ruaraka Sports Ground from Assistant National Treasurer, a position that was held by James Ndiku who assumed the National Treasurer unopposed during the elections.

Mwalimu Hussein has left behind a young family.
