SEKU don urges students to enroll into local universities

South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) Wote campus director Prof Harrison Maithya has called upon form four leavers to join the campuses within their localities.

Speaking to Education News in his office, Maithya said his campus offers accredited degree programmes in a bid to encourage enrolment in large numbers.

‘These institutions offer serene environments for learning. Those who didn’t qualify to join their dream universities can also enroll,’ Maithya urged students.

He also revealed that they offer diploma courses for students who haven’t qualified for direct degrees.

He urged parents to stop forcing their children to undertake courses they aren’t interested in

“Parents have a duty to guide their children. They should strictly follow their children’s class performance so that even when they are choosing courses for them, they are in the right track of their interests,” added the don.

He observed that as lectures, they can’t know whether or not their students were forced by their parents to pursue certain courses.

‘It’s important for students to know that they can change courses internally or externally within a specified period of time,’ he said.
