The Kisumu County Government has unveiled a model Early Childhood Development and Nutrition Center which will later be rolled out to reach the informal sectors within the area.

Presiding over the ceremony, Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o also launched County Nutrition Master Plan and said the center will be used by mothers who work and have no time to take care of their young ones.

The Governor who was accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’o, Siaya Counterpart Rosela Rasanga, Busia First Lady Judith Ojamoong, among other guests said the center will be rolled out to markets such as Jubilee and beyond.

Nyong’o said the nutrition will improve on the wellbeing of young children.

He said Kisumu has over the years witnessed high infant mortality rates due to poor nutrition among young children.

The County boss added that the programme should be a constitutional requirement in the country as breast feeding is a basic right.

Nyong’o commended UNICEF and other partners for providing space for the programme to run.
