Well-wishers aid boy in viral post writing assignment under street lights

Salim Khamis, a Grade Six pupil from Joja Urabi Primary in Shanzu, Mombasa County received help from well-wishers after his photos were shared on social media while he was writing his assignment under street light, minutes to curfew hours.

The pupil was left with no option other than using the street light to undertake his assignment since his mother lacked money to purchase electricity tokens.

The viral photos were taken by Emmanuel Mbaji Mruu, a netizen, moments to the curfew and posted them to his social media pages.

Mbaji revealed that Khamisi’s family had access to power, but the mother was jobless and was unable to afford to pay for it.

“I found this boy doing his homework along the roadside using streets ligh. I saw a zeal and great person in him. Can we help?” Mruu posted.

The post attracted well-wishers who came to the aid of thee pupil, donating various items such as solar panel, battery, switches, sockets and inverter.

On Friday, September 18, 2021, afternoon Khamisi’s family received solar system.

According to Gift A Girl Child Initiative’s Diana Chitsaka Mwangala, the minor’s family received a solar panel, a battery, switches, sockets, an inverter and bulbs to aid him and his siblings to undertake their studies during the night.   

Mwanagala took to the Facebook her pictures together with Mruu while shopping the aforementioned at an electronic shop.

She thanked the philanthropists who showed up saying “So far Soo Good we purchased a solar system. Solar panel, battery, switches, sockets, inverter, bulbs. Our boy I going to have free lights throughout. He can be able to study t home without any difficulties. God bless you abundantly my good friends and the family for support,” Diana wrote on her Facebook page.
