Police probe sudden death of school contractor

Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba has asked the police to move with speed to investigate the cause of death of a contractor at St. Peter’s Nyakemincha Secondary School.

The police boss expressed his sadness when he learned that the builder died on duty at school’s construction site.

“I ask my police officers to compile a report on the findings and furnish us with the appropriate information,” he said.

According to the school administration, the builder was roofing the three storey building when he accidentally cut one sagging timber that made him slip.

“He slipped from the roof and landed on the ground, dying instantly,” Said one teacher who did not want to be named because.

Nyamira South Police Commandant Mr. Evans Kerong identified the deceased as Evans Nyamoi, a 45 years old man of Nyamira County.

He said the body was taken to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

The principal of the school Mr. Meme Murungi regretted that the accident saying that it took place at the time when the institution was busy preparing in the expansion of the infrastructure to cope with the population pressure occasioned by the 100 per cent transition.

The school presented 340 candidates in the 2020 KCSE examinations and managed to take 308 to University.
