Boy treks for 14km to seek form one admission

A pupil from Kimilili Constituency in Bungoma County has surprised many after he walked for more than 10 kilometres to seek form one admission at Teremi High School with only an admission letter.

Stephen Napali, who schooled at Orec primary school for orphans scored 355 marks in KCPE examination and was unable to join form one due to lack of basic necessities and transport to facilitate him reach school.

Stephen narrated that his grandmother who was his guardian died last month leaving him helpless and without someone to stand in for him.

“I used to stay with my grandmother who was the breadwinner of the family but unfortunately she passed on last month before I reported to school,” he stated, adding that at the moment he has nobody to take care of him which made him trek for 14 kilometres to school though he didn’t have the required items.

Teremi High School Deputy Principal, Mr Wanyama Munoko told the press that they received the student and confirmed that Stephen Napali had been selected to the school and his registration number is 266.

Mr Munoko added that they will ensure that the student gets education and enough support so that he realizes his dream.

“As a school we will use possible means to make sure that this student gets education and personal emoluments and all the support necessary so that he stays in school,” he said.

Maximilla Obimba, HOD guiding and counseling at the school assured that the boy will receive material support and counselling needed so that he doesn’t feel isolated.

In her appeal, Mrs. Obimba asked well-wishers to come to the aid of Stephen to ensure that he enjoys his high school life.

Josephine Bwoka, the head teacher of the Orphanage school confirmed that Stephen was one of the needy students in her school who passed highly and was very committed.

“Stephen was staying with his grandmother after their father reportedly attempted to throw them into river Nzoia and a good Samaritan rescued them,” she said.
