Big blow as Bungoma school loses director

Bungoma catholic cathedral and the education sector in Bungoma county woke up to a rude shock following the untimely demise of Fr. Christopher Wanyonyi of Christ the King cathedral Church in Bungoma county.

Wanyonyi was the director of Christ the King Cathedral primary school, an institution that has been posting excellent results in national examinations with a high population of pupils joining national schools.

Addressing journalists at Christ the King School, Bungoma South Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Chairman Augustine Watamba said that the teaching fraternity is saddened by the untimely death of Father Wanyonyi as he promoted Education in the county.

The vocal priest had been battling a respiratory disease for a very long time and had been admitted for the past one month at Eldoret referral hospital.

 The late Wanyonyi was ordained as a priest in 1990 and had served many parishes until his demise.

In a press statement released to media houses, Kakamega Catholic Bishop Joseph Obanyi eulogized Father Wanyonyi as a dedicated servant of God whose priestly work had touched so many souls. He also urged catholic faithfuls to remain calm as they prepare for his last farewell.

Bishop Obanyi is an acting Bishop in Bungoma diocese.

Political leaders led by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka eulogized the deceased as a selfless and true faith leader who served the church with unmatched zeal and commitment.
