100 needy students from Nyamira County have benefited from bursaries worth Kshs 1 million given by a university don from the region.

Prof. Reuben Marwanga from Strathmore university said out of the 100 students, five who have been admitted to national schools could get full scholarship for the four years.

Speaking at Rigoma, Manga, Nyamira, Eerenyo and Borabu market centres where he officially handed over  the bursary cheques ,he expressed concerns over the high number of students from the county who could not proceed with their studies because of lack of school fees.

He said that as a scholar he also wanted to give back to the society by supporting those who cannot manage to pay school fees and challenged elites from the county to step in and assist the needy students.

Marwanga who expressed interest in the gubernatorial seat in the next general elections challenged parents from the county to deeply invest in the education of their children since it’s the only permanent asset they can give them.

He asked the residents of Nyamira county to elect credible leaders who can bring meaningful reforms and development in all sectors.

He noted that Nyamira county has been lagging behind in terms of development because of poor leadership and hoped that in the next election, the residents won’t make a mistake of electing unproductive leaders.
