Kisumu governor Anyang’  Nyongo has disbursed bursaries and scholarships to needy students across the 7 sub counties of Kisumu county. The students were in a limbo due to lack of school and college fees.

The governor revealed that Kshs 250 million has been released since the start of the year to help needy children with their education.

“The selection of beneficiaries has been above board and distribution of bursaries is done electronically” he says.

The county has committees set up at ward levels to carefully and professionally pick needy and vulnerable applicants from within the county who are either in secondary schools, universities, driving colleges and marine schools to be given bursaries.

Beneficiaries of the bursaries include 20,021 students from secondary schools or special institutions, 20348 university students and 4608 students from tertiary and driving schools. 1260 students received scholarships.

The county will fully sponsor two students, a male and female from each of the 35 wards to the marine school.

He appealed to all beneficiaries of the bursaries to work hard in order to fulfill their dream careers.
