Siaya County to get 112 new teachers in TSC recruitment

Siaya County will get new 112 Primary and Secondary School teachers in the national teacher recruitment by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

According to the County director of TSC Dr. Esther Njeri, the ongoing teachers’ recruitment has Siaya given 94 slots and 18 slots for Primary and Secondary Schools respectively.

“The recruitment of teachers has kicked off countrywide and those seeking employment have until July 12th 2021 to apply for consideration” said Njeri adding that the region will also get additional 168 teachers to fill the gaps occasioned by deaths and retirement of teachers.

The director who was speaking at her office in Siaya town said 146 out of the 168 additional teachers will be absorbed in the secondary schools while 22 will be for the primary schools.

“The recruitment is part of the national teachers’ recruitment exercise where TSC is seeking to recruit and promote 10,000 teachers,” clarified Njeri adding that TSC will recruit 5000 secondary teachers and another 1000 primary school teachers.

She added that the additional teachers would help the government achieve its policy of 100% transition of pupils from primary to secondary schools.

She asked unemployed teachers to try their luck in the on-going recruitment exercise advising that those who don’t get successful should consider engaging themselves in private schools or get engagements as BOM teachers in public schools including other economic ventures as they wait for their time.

“We do recognize that there is a big shortage of teachers especially at secondary schools, so even the numbers we are employing is still not adequate since the Commission is restricted by the budget from the treasury,” stated the director.
