More Kenyan learners will benefit from additional Hungarian scholarships following the increment of the annual scholarships from 100, to 200 by the Hungarian government.
The development was disclosed during the opening of a regional recruitment office for the main Hungarian universities in Nairobi.
The scholarships will be provided by University of Pec’s, University of Debrecen, Hungarian University of Agriculture, and the Life Sciences and International Business School (IBS).
The Principal Secretary (PS) for University Education and Research, Amb. Simon Nabukwesi welcomed the kind gesture Hungary has extended to Kenya, noting that a high number of Kenyan students have been applying for Hungarian education scholarships.
Hungarian government has been offering scholarships for Kenyan students since the 2016/2017 academic year under the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Scheme, administered by the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) on behalf of the Hungarian Government.
He was speaking during the launch of the regional office in Nairobi where he noted that some of the scholarships are in Kenyan priority areas and more so in our Big 4 agenda, that is, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Medical Sciences, and Architecture that is important for improved housing.
“The institutions of higher learning in Hungary have become very popular with Kenyan students. This is due to the positive feedback from earlier cohorts of students who have benefitted from the Hungarian Government Scholarships,” said Amb. Nabukwesi.
“As such, opening a regional office in Kenya by a consortium of the main Universities in Hungary is a positive gesture, since this will give an opportunity to Kenyan students to easily access relevant information on Higher education in Hungary.” he added
On his part, the Hungarian Minister for Innovation and Technology László Palkovics Palkovics said the regional office provides an opportunity for students wishing to pursue higher education in Hungary to get necessary information promptly.
The Ambassador of Hungary to Kenya H.E. Mr. Zsolt Mészáros said he was glad that the cordial relations between Kenya and Hungary have been making tremendous progress in the recent past especially in areas such as health apart from education.
