Embrace ICT in teaching, urges director

By Philemon Kiprop

Teachers have been asked to embrace integration of ICT in teaching and learning as a new front of delivery of educational content.

Trans Nzoia West deputy County Director Sammy Leitakol said education is moving towards the use of technology and urged tutors to embrace ICT in a bid to make teaching and learning efficient and enjoyable to the learners.
Speaking while overseeing Remote learning training in Kitale, Leitakol said time has changed and technology was the only way of ensuring learning takes place regardless of challenges preventing face-to-face learning in institutions.

He cited the closure of learning institutions due to coronavirus
outbreak as the reason education stakeholders came up with the idea of using remote learning as a way of cushioning learners in case of  a similar occurrence in future.

“The world is changing in a fast pace thus forcing upon education stakeholders to come up with ways of using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Closure of schools occasioned by Covid-19 challenged us to
put up measures of ensuring learning goes on despite such challenges”, Leitakol said.

He at the same time said the Teachers Services Commission is leading the pack in the education sector in going paperless in provision of services to its members.
