Teachers and locals were shocked when a Form 3 student at Ainamoi Secondary seriously injured his Principal, Mr Geoffrey Rono after hitting him with a nail studded piece of wood.

According to Ainamoi Senior Chief, Mr Richard Bett, the student who had been chased earlier in the day to go and collect fee balances crept back to the school compound at around 6.00 pm when students and teachers had left for home. He entered the Principal’s office where after a short exchange he abruptly hit the Principal on the head seriously injuring him.

The chief said the Principal raised the alarm and quick rescue effort by the school Bursar who was still around, saved his life.

Kericho County KUPPET Executive Secretary, Mrs. Mary Rotich expressed shock and disbelief over the barbaric act.

She said, “Dear Colleagues. Yesterday 9/5/2021 we received disturbing news within our beloved county. A Principal, Mr Rono of Ainamoi Secondary School was hit by a Form Three student in his office around 6.00 pm. The student together with others had been sent home for school fees an action that irked the form three boy. He later returned to the school armed with a crude weapon and knocked at the principal’s office who was in at the time. No sooner had he entered than he hit the principal on the head with a piece of wood that had a nail on it.”

The KUPPET official said the principal was rescued by the bursar who responded to his call for help. The boy immediately took to his heels.

The principal was rushed to hospital for urgent medication and was later discharged around 10.00am and is recuperating at home.

Mrs. Rotich said KUPPET condemned the action in the strongest terms possible, adding that the lives of the teaching staff were at risk and called on the Interior Ministry to take quick action and apprehend the suspect.
