WB to sponsor over 400 needy students in Busia

The World Bank (WB) together with Plan International will support 483 needy students across Busia County to enable them pursue education through Elimu Scholarship programme to join form one through to form four.

According to Busia Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Kipchumba Ruto, the candidates to benefit must have attained 280 marks and above in the 2020 KCPE Examinations.

“I (the Deputy County Commissioners) will be the chair of the selection committees of the Sub-counties to oversee the exercise.  I therefore urge the respective committee members to be fair during the selection process, only deserving cases should be considered,” he said.

Already 110 sub-counties drawn from 30 counties have been earmarked in the programme with a view to improve retention in upper primary schools and transition to secondary schools.

The selected counties include, Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Muranga, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kajiado, Narok, Kilifi, Trans Nzoia, Kitui, Samburu, Laikipia, Tana River, Makweni, West Pokot, Tharaka Nithi, Kisii, Migori, Kwale, Nandi, Machakos, Turkana, Isiolo, Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera and Wajir.
