TSC announces CBC training for teachers

By Roy Hezron

The training of teachers in Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will start on May 25, 2021.

In a letter dated May 7, 2021 signed by the Commission’s Director of Quality Assurance and Standards, Dr. Reuben Nthamburi, all Regional and County Directors have been requested to officially invite Head teachers for a five days training, identify and invite teachers to be trained; and inform, coordinate and monitor the Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) and Champions virtual training.

In addition, the Commission has also instructed the Regional and County Directors to keenly take consideration on the Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers, identify suitable venues for training in consultation with CSOs and Sub-County Directors, facilitate venue organizers to prepare teachers meals and teas, coordinate training materials on time, coordinate and monitor training sessions, and prepare and submit training report.

The exercise which is expected to end on June 4, 2021 will basically target Head teachers from both regular and SNE schools, one teacher from grade 1 to 3 and from grade 4 to 5 both from regular and SNE schools, with areas where there are no special schools being directed to invite one teacher from selected special units.

The training which will be conducted virtually and face to face will entail Master trainers who will train the CSOs and CBC Champions both  regular and SNE for three days starting from May 25-May 27, 2021 at the County level virtually.

Thereafter, the CSOs and CBC Champions both regular and SNE will train teachers through face to face for five days from May 31-June 4, 2021 in strict adherence to Ministry of Health Covid-19 prevention protocols whereby only 15 teachers will be allowed in each training room.

The participants are set to receive travel allowance, remuneration and meals at different rates with every teacher being reimbursed up to Sh.300 per day to cater for travel expenses, CSOs and CBC Champion being paid Shs.1000 as facilitation allowance per day for 5 days among other payments.
