Chiefs asked to help students in applying for bursaries

Parents have been told to facilitate their children with fare to and from their various schools during the filling and certification of the application forms for Constituency Education Bursary Fund.

Bomachoge Borabu Member of Parliament Prof Zadock Ogutu said his office will give all secondary and university applicants the bursary money only if the application forms were satisfactorily filled.

The MP regretted that some students lacked money for transport to their schools for certification and ended up returning the incomplete application forms that led to cancelations.

He asked the area chiefs and their assistants to be of great help and sign on behalf of principals to avoid long travels and financial constraints.

He said that during the 2020 to 2021, financial year, his office will use more than Sh20 million for both the secondary and university education funds.

The professor, who is in his first term in parliament, appealed to the educationists from the region to pull their resources together to enable them support the education of their children.

He decried the high rate of drug abuse in the area and attributed it to the high rate of school dropouts.

He asked the elders to stand firm and castigate any evil caused by the youth in society.
