The Ministry of Education has sent Kshs.7.5billion to public secondary schools towards the Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) programme, the Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education, Dr. Julius Jwan has said.
Dr. Jwan said the money is aimed at enabling the schools to buy examination materials which include practical aspects of Science and technology subjects, apart from supporting other budgetary commitments of the schools.
The PS spoke moments after witnessing the official closing of the just concluded KCPE at Milimani Primary School in Naivasha Township yesterday. He was accompanied by the Nakuru County Director for Education, (CDE), Mr. Fredrick Osewe.
Dr. Jwan said the schools will receive at additional Kshs.7.5billion to run support under the FDSE to complete the school calendar.
The Kshs.7.5billion the Ministry has released to secondary schools is an addition to Kshs.14.9 billion for public secondary schools the government released to schools in January, this year.
The PS thanked teachers, security officers and parents for the smooth incident free management of KCPE examinations and asked for sustained support for the management of KCSE examinations which starts on Friday.
He assured KCPE candidates that all of them will join Form I under the 100percent transition policy from Primary to secondary education.
